Two months of collecting kilometers on bicycles, doing extra laps and spurring each other on have paid off: in the “Who cycles the most” competition organized by the mehrwert initiative, the 2655 participants from 23 companies covered a total of 1,445,254 km. In doing so, they saved 274,598 kg of CO2 - for the benefit of the environment and health.

The employees of Berliner Wasserbetriebe were the clear winners, followed by those of Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe in second place. The facilities of the Berlin-Buch/MDC Mitte campus took 3rd place in the company ranking. The 231 cyclists from the Science and Biotech Campus/MDC Mitte collectively cycled 141,607.7 kilometers.

The central award ceremony, to which all participants were invited, took place on July 10, 2024 at the winner, Berliner Wasserbetriebe, in Berlin-Mitte. Prizes were awarded to the best teams in their respective categories, the best individual cyclists and the most popular picture from the photo competition. Of all the participating individual cyclists, Günther Pätz from the campus company Biosynth covered 6,548 kilometers and thus the most distance. We congratulate him on this great result!

From 30 May to 19 June, the mehrwert companies took part in another cycling competition, “Stadtradeln”, together as “mehrwert Berlin” and made a major contribution to Berlin's result: 2,103 cyclists cycled 415,629 kilometers, making them the best team in Berlin, ahead of the Berlin police and Humboldt University.

The “Who cycles the most” competition will be held again in 2025 in the period from May to June 2025, as Natascha Klimek and Michael Geißler from the executive board of the mehrwert initiative announced.

There will be an internal award ceremony for the Berlin-Buch campus after the summer, details will follow.
